Recap of Symposium on Biomedical Polymers for Drug Delivery
On Friday and Saturday, March 26-27, over 170 people attended theSymposium on Biomedical Polymers for Drug Delivery to honor Dr. Jindrich Kopecek's 70th Birthday. Dr Kopecek, Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics and Bioengineering and TheraTarget, Inc. Board Member, is a world renowned expert in polymeric biomaterials and drug delivery systems.
Dr. Kopecek has authored close to 400 research articles in the areas of bioanalogous polymers, polymeric drug delivery and self-assembled hydrogels. In the process, he has trained many successful scientists in his laboratory. For his distinguished work, Henry has received numerous awards such as the Founders Award from the Controlled Release Society , the Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientist from the Millennial World Congress of Pharmaceutical Science, and the Paul Dawson Biotechnology Awards, from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
The scientific program included topics such as the design and synthesis of polymeric carriers, nucleic acid delivery, biological fate or polymer-drug conjugates, hydrogels and bio-imaging. Speakers were from around the globe and many were alumni of Dr. Kopecek's laboratory. Talks were complimented by more than 50 poster presentations representing the most recent advances in biomedical polymers for delivery of bioactive and imaging agents.
