Nanotechnology Training Program

The Graduate Training Program in Nanotechnology at the University of Utah chose. by selection process and committee. five new entering Ph.D. students for the 2012-1013 academic year. Six Ph.D. students selected for the 2011-2012 academic year have now completed the first year of their Ph.D. program. For the academic year of 2010-2011, five PhD students have now completed the second year of their Ph.D. program.

These students represent a cross-section of departments from both the physical and health sciences areas on campus. Recruitment is currently underway for the 2013-2014 academic year (see admissions page for details).

Successful training in this area requires dedicated interactions between a multitude of disciplines including chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering, cellular biology, pharmaceutical sciences and related fields. Students trained in traditional graduate programs of each of the disciplines mentioned above may lack the skills necessary to tackle the interdisciplinary challenges required to successfully integrate nanotechnology. This training program is designed to meet this need.

Why Utah? The University of Utah is internationally recognized for research in genetics and health sciences complemented by a very rich talent pool in the physical sciences, engineering, fine arts, and athletics. Salt Lake City and the surrounding valley offers a very affordable cost of living and many cultural amenities. Outdoor enthusiasts love Utah, which boasts world renowed state and national parks, and "the greatest snow on earth." Seven major ski resorts are just 30 minutes from campus. All University of Utah students and staff receive an annual UTA TRAX, bus, and FrontRunner train pass. With numerous TRAX and bus stops all over town and campus, it is surprisingly possible to live without a car in Salt Lake.
